Top Gear is an Emmy Award winning show based out of the United Kingdom, that focuses on all aspects of cars. The show has been running on and off since 1977. The show was cancelled in 2001, but was brought back in 2002 when Jeremy Clarkson returned with a new format. It will enter its 9th series in January 2007.
Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond, and James Mays present a wide variety of segments on their show. A standard show usually involves racing a high speed car against some other form of transportation, such as a train or plane. The "Cheap Car Challenge" invovles a game of bargain hunting to find a car that will pass the challenge without causing them to go over their small budget. Standard reviews are commonplace on the show, as the cast shows the strengths and weaknesses of various cars. "Star in a Reasonably-Priced Car" is a popular interview segment where a celebrity discusses many different car-related stories. The guest will also take a spin on the test track before they leave. "Power Laps" features the mystery driver, The Stig, putting various cars to the test on the test track. "The Cool Wall" allows the hosts to simply state their opinion on whether a car is "cool" or not.
This show continues to please its viewers with great reviews and entertaining programs. The humorous conversations between the hosts provide great television for any viewer. They also love to destroy caravans in new and interesting ways, and that's always a good thing.
